Thank you for your kind words, Kathy. And, absolutely, you can apply the same genius to the "early to bed" part that you applied to the "early to rise" part. OTOH, sounds like the 2am routine feels like "home to you, and anything that is loaded up with a sense of home is a little harder to move beyond. Doesn't mean you can't create a new sense of home for you and yours; just means that you need to keep the pull of the old home in mind — so you can be in charge of it instead of it in charge of you. Happy Zzzzz's...

I find the whole aspect of sleep fascinating because I come from a long line of night owls. so much so that my mother's best friend in elementary school was not allowed to have a sleepover with mom primarily because "that family is up at 2 am playing the piano". So the mere concept of waking up an hour earlier seems like an insurmountable effort. However, lately, my body is determined to give it a fair shot. Isolation for a year plus has my routines on auto-try-new-things. So now I automatically wake up at 6 or 6:30, and that happens even if I don't fall asleep until after 2. After a couple of weeks of that happening without my agreeing to it, I found myself looking forward to it. By 8 am, I have had breakfast, and have already made some headway on my various retirement projects. And each day that happens, I find that I feel grateful that I still have so many hours in the day left. Still, I think this is such a complex area of study with so many variables. That is something I appreciate about Madelaine's blog: her awareness of variables. Even though scientific study requires that the focus include such variables, I find that in applying studies to our current days those variables are often forgotten. Typical of Madaine, however, is that she excels in her awareness of that bigger picture. I am further encouraged to stay on this early rise and track the effects in a journal. And perhaps see if I can get to bed earlier than 2 am.
